Why Natural Light?
Ecological sustainability
Sky Tunnels offer a ‘greener’, healthier option, providing daylight in areas which would normally require artificial lighting.
A Sky Tunnel reduces power consumption in the home or in a commercial or public property, which in its turn helps reduce damage caused by power production.
It is a well-known fact that sunlight is good for our physical, mental and emotional well-being. Seasonal Affective Disorder (commonly known as ‘Winter blues’) affects nearly half a million people every winter. The cure is light therapy – simple exposure to very bright light (around 10 times the intensity of ordinary domestic lighting) – for 1 to 2 hours per day. Domestic or office lighting only provides 200-500 lux (on average), but the level required to treat SAD is 2500 lux.
On a bright day, a Sky Tunnel can provide between 1000 and 2000 lux – a far healthier option with the advantage of a much reduced impact on the environment.
