Products / Sola Windvent System
How it Works
The Sola Windvent is a natural ventilation system that operates purely on aerodynamic principles. Allowing the provision of an air supply, and a corresponding extraction rate, without the need for a power supply to drive the unit. The only power required is a low voltage controller unit that operates the dampers that limit the input of natural air.
The Sola Windvents can be used as balanced split ducting terminals for independant input and extract air systems or as part of a wider 'passive stack' building ventilation strategy. All of our natural ventilation systems are designed to meet with latest building codes as well as any CIBSE application guidelines in relation to the building type for which they are intended.
Design
Terminals can be designed in keeping with the architectural design and aesthetics of the buildings to which they are installed. Alternatively they can be designed and manufactured to be of a contrasting appearance, adding a feature aspect to the overall structure of the building. The Windvent louvres are designed to ensure the maximum available free area of the unit is utilised, whilst maintaining weather integrity at all times.
Manufacture & Installation
Our Windvent units can be installed on flat or pitched roofs and also on the roof apex where appropriate. All units are manufactured to BS EN ISO 9001 and suit most architectural design requirements. All units are fully welded and constructed using corrosion resistant aluminium and fitted with internal acoustic material. Adjustable dampers and transfer grilles are manufactured from anodised aluminium or perforated stainless steel panels. The units may also be powder coated to your specifications in any RAL colour of your choice.
The Windvent works on a tried and tested combination of principles. These include cross ventilation, buoyancy (rising warm air) and the venturi effect (suction created by wind passing over a high level opening). The ductwork for the units themselves can pass through any floor level to take warm air from within the building. The units are also capable of being linked to the buildings BMS to ensure dampers are fully closed in the event of a fire. Windvent units can be controlled via master control panels and room temperature sensors, and Co2 sensors. We can also offer a manually operated system where the dampers can be opened and closed by use of a rotating lever operated by the room occupants when required.
Application
The Sola Windvent and the Sky Tunnel light pipe systems are extremely suitable in many applications within offices, hospitals, and schools as well as private and commercial premises including gymnasiums, main building entrances and specialist applications. With many companies and individuals taking a more positive approach to environmental issues, an increasing number are seeing the benefits of naturally driven systems in their working environment and to the health of their employees.
Natural light systems such as Sky Tunnel can assist in alleviating the commonly known office sickness syndrome. Windvent systems offer a natural solution to health problems commonly associated with mechanical air conditioning units that re-circulate stale air and possibly germs contained within the building. By comparison, the Windvent system takes air from the roof level eliminating a healthy proportion of pollution, including hazardous carbon monoxide from roadside traffic that is often a problem when using low level ventilation methods.
Greater Reduction to CO2 Emmissions
Increasingly architects and specifiers are having to think about where so called 'environmentally friendly' products are sourced. Further consideration on how the product is broken down for recycling after its useful life, aswell as where the product has come from in terms of the air miles or freight miles of any major and minor components.
If a product or component is manufactured within countries outside of the E.U. then the manufacture costs of the components may be much cheaper on paper, but the cost in shipping the individual components to the U.K. creates a Carbon Footprint that certainly outweighs any 'environmentally friendly' status of the design or building structure for which the components were intended.
The Sola Windvent system is a truly environmentally friendly product and contributes effectivley through good design and manufacturing techniques to reducing Co2 emmisions within all building structures to which the systems are installed. All the manufactured Sola Windvent components are 97% recyclable due to each system being constructed with aluminium and metal components.
All Sola Windvent systems are designed and constructed from components sourced within the U.K. or our close neighbouring E.U. countries, therefore further contributing to lowering building Co2 emmission levels through our U.K. only component procurement and efficient distribution of the finished product.
